When news spread, Congress workers arrived leading to a heated altercation. Security forces including BSF personnel and paramilitary forces had to rush to the spot when things seemed to be going from bad to worse.

Though Congress leaders including JR Lobo, the Congress candidate from Mangalore South requested the police to ensure that the students were allowed to vote, the police reportedly said they couldn’t do anything much.

Even a teacher from Tirthahalli who arrived to vote was prevented from voting despite her name in the voters’ list. Even the student group returned without voting. Police maintained tight security in the area following the incident.
