Bantwal, Oct 31, 2013 : The members of the Narikombu Gram Panchayat visited the AMR Power Project site at Shambhoor on October 30, Wednesday following complaints that an additional power house was being constructed unauthorisedly.

During the visit, the members learnt that the complaint was true. Anand Salian, former Panchayat president who was one among the members of the visiting team, said the members visited the place six days after serving a notice to the company as per a decision taken at the Panchayat meeting. He said the works were underway without taking the Panchayat into confidence.
However, the Plant Manager of the Company Premanath said the company was finding it difficult to store water due to increased inflow during monsoons. Water has been released from all the 30 sluice gates during the previous monsoons, he said adding a bypass was being constructed to release flood waters. However, the GP members have refuted this argument.
An incident wherein the company’s plant manager even obstructed some media men from capturing photographs of the unauthorized work, also took place on the occasion. He even reportedly tried to snatch the camera of a scribe resulting in a verbal altercation between the officer and the media men.
