Committee formed to oversee synthetic track project – DC

Mangalore, March 20, 2012 : Addressing a review meeting, DK Deputy Commissioner Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda informed that a technical and monitoring committee has been formed to oversee the project of constructing a synthetic track at Mangala Stadium. The responsibility of ensuring quality will be entrusted to this committee, he added.

He also said that the project will be completed by the end of April and that the track will be inaugurated during the first week of May.

He also said that the contractors will get paid only after the International Athletic Federation certifies the synthetic track.

Further, he said that he has instructed officials to submit a technical report for the construction of a sports hostel on a plot near Kadri ITI and the construction of an indoor stadium on a 1.5-acre plot in Shakthinagar.

Speaking on the occasion, N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the state assembly, said that the city requires another swimming pool and suggested a swimming pool near Yemmekere, which will soon be developed.

Ajith Kumar Hegde, the chairman of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) said that he will submit a report on developing a maidan in Bangra Kuloor. Manjunath, the technical engineer, informed that Rs. 40 lakh has been released for the construction of a stadium at Swaraj Maidan in Moodubidri and that tenders have already been invited for this project.

It was also decided at the meeting that gates and toilets will be constructed for Karavali Utsav Maidan.
