Colourful parade marks R-Day celebrations in Udupi

Udupi, Jan 26, 2013 :  A colourful parade and cultural presentation marked the 64th Republic Day celebrations at the Ajjarkad District Stadium here on January 26, Saturday.

Udupi District Minister and State Minister for Mujrai and Ports  Kota Srinivas Poojari hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour.

 

 

There was an attractive march past by a contingent of police force, NCC, police band,  District Armed Reserve Police Force, Home Guards, Scouts and Guides and others.

In his Republic Day address, the  minister highlighted the various programmes taken up by the state government and said the same were being effectively implemented in Udupi district with the objective of achieving overall growth.

He also spoke on the ambitious Sakala scheme of the state government  and said of the 2,80,036 applications received under the programme, 2,73,151 applications  have been disposed.  He further stated that a sum of Rs 17.25 crores has been sanctioned to Udupi district to boost tourism.

The Minister further said nearly 1.97 lakh farmers in DK and Udupi district would get a maximum of upto five acres Kumki land for free    consequent upon the decision of the government  to  grant the Kumki land rights to farmers.

  The Minister felicitated government employees who received district level ‘Sarvothama Awards’ in recognition of their services to the society.

Deputy Commissioner Dr MT Reju, Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah, Additional DC Kumar, Udupi Legislator Raghupathi Bhat, ZP Chief Upendra Nayak, Udupi CMC Chief Kiran Kumar and others were present.
