Puttur, Oct 31, 2012 :Clement Sequeira and Sunil Rai from Puttur have emerged as the International Open Karate champions.
The championship event was held at Bangalore by the Great Indian Budokai Martial Arts School from Oct 26 to Oct 28. More than 1,500 karate experts from all over the country and South Asia took part in the Team Kata, Kata, and Kumite events in a wide range of age, belt, and weight categories.
Sunil won the first place in the Men Black Belts 65 – 70kgs Kumite category while Clement won the third place in the Men Black Belts 70 – 75kgs Kumite category.
Shihan Suresh M., a 6th Dan Black Belt, has been training Sunil and Clement for the past 18 years. Shihan has been training karate students for the past 25 years under the Institute of Karate and Allied Arts (IKAA), which is affiliated to Karate Budokan International Malaysia and All India Budokan Karate Federation.
Both Sunil and Clement are authorized instructors for IKAA and Karate Budokan International.
Clement, son of Gratia and A. D. Sequeira of Bappalige in Puttur, is a good guitarist too. He is now the HR manager at the US-based Analytics Company and the vice president of the Institute of Karate and Allied Arts, Bangalore. He is also associated with Gold’s Gym as a kick boxing and mixed martial arts trainer.
Sunil, son of Sundar and Taradevi of Biliyarkatte in Puttur, works for a construction and infrastructure company in Bangalore.
The victorious duo has now qualified to take part in the World Union of Karate Do Federations (WUKF) International Karate Championships, which are scheduled to be held in Delhi from Nov 21 to Nov 25.
