City police arrest 2 chain snatchers

Mangalore, Nov 1, 2012: The city police arrested two chain snatchers and retrieved gold chains and cash worth Rs. 8 lakhs from them.

The arrested are Vincent D’Souza (48) of Ullal and Naveen Sequeira (39) of Thokkottu. The police have seized 288gms of gold, a motorbike, and Rs. 75,000 in cash from them.

 

Chain Snachers


According to police sources, the two have been involved in a number of theft cases. They snatched two gold chains from Veeramma of Kudroli, a gold chain from Geetha Balakrishna, and two chains from Leelavathi Shetty of Kadri in the months of February and October.

The police took a tip and nabbed Vincent D’Souza near Falnir. Based on information revealed by him upon interrogation, they nabbed Naveen. 
 
Vincent, who suffered a serious leg injury in a train accident a few years back, used to ride a bike with Naveen on the pillion, snatch chains, and flee from the spot.

ACP Kavitha, Bunder Circle Inspector Manjunath Shetty, SI Ramakrishna, PC Ravi, and PC Ramesh, under the leadership of DCP (crime and traffic) Dharmaiah investigated the chain snatching case.
