Citizens Throng at Greenathon - 2013 for Clean Green City

Mangalore, Jan 20: Greenathon - 2013 was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner N Prakash at the Nehru Maidan Grounds here, on January 20.

Addressing the gathering, DC N Prakash said that Greenathon - 2013 is a special initiative by SRS Global Solution, Mangalorean.com and District Lions Clubs International 317-D to bring awareness about clean environment. “We need to keep the city clean. The district administration is taking necessary measures in keeping the city clean. But we need the co-operation of public too.” “This is another initiative to remind all to keep the city clean and green” said  Mr. DC N Prakash, DC of Dakshina Kannada. He congratulated the organizers for taking the initiative to bring awareness among the public. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, the District Vice Governor K C Prabhu said, "The purpose of this gathering is to keep the city clean and green. We need to take a pledge to keep the city clean and plant saplings in our surroundings. If we as individuals start to bring changes around us, then we can change the society. We need to change our mindset and strive hard to save trees, which gives us shade and fresh air."

Indiana Hospital Director Yousef Kumble speaking on the occasion said, "This is a meaningful cause. The aim of Greenathon - 2013 is not only to keep the city clean, but to bring about awareness in people about the green revolution. We need fresh air to breathe and it is our duty to protect nature. The spirit of green revolution should ignite in every Mangalorean’s heart."

DC N Prakash flagged off the 10 km run and Mayor Gulzar Banu flagged off the 5 km run. 

Westline Chairman Nasir, Station Head, Radio Mirchi Samir, Proprietor of Mangalorean.com Violet Pereira, Lions Club District Governor M B Sadashiv, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar, Division Manager Indian Overseas Bank Anil, and Chairman SRS Global Solution Rajesh R were also present. Jyothi Saligrama compered the programme. Prizes were distributed to the winners on the occasion.
