Christians observe Ash Wednesday with devotion

Mangalore, Feb 13, 2013: : Holy masses were held in churches across the city as part of Ash Wednesday which was observed with devotion and fervor by the Christians on February 13.

St Sebastian Church, Bendore witnessed the first mass of the Lenten season with Parish Priest Fr Antony Serrao celebrating.

In his homily, Fr Serrao stressed the need for the people to have a positive attitude and have love and respect for each other. This Lenten Season, each and every one of us by mending our ways and stop blaming others.

As Lent aims at recalling the sufferings of Christ, the fasting, his crucifixion and burial and the suffering of Mother Mary, each and every Christian should have charity, fasting and prayer in mind.

Ash was applied on the foreheads of all the faithful by the priests while they uttered “Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return “ meaning that all humans have come from dust and to dust they shall return.
