Mangalore, Jan30, 2013: The District Children’s Protection Unit has provided financial aid to 99 children from single parent families whose annual income is below Rs 24,000. The financial aid is intended at helping the children pursue their education.

Deputy Commissioner N Prakash distributed cheques to the beneficiaries at a function held here on January 29.  Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner urged the beneficiary children to make good use of the financial aid by pursuing education with dedication and discipline.


Gracy Gonsalves, District Child Protection Officer said the unit which was formed in April last year is headed by the DC. She said though a sum of Rs 2 lakh was released in September itself, the unit took time to identify and finalize the names of the beneficiaries.


Dr. K N Vijayaprakash, Chief Executive officer of DK Zilla Panchayat, Asha Nayak, Chairman of Child Welfare Committee were among others present on the occasion.
