Children Declare War Against Malaria With Colours

Mangalore, October 2, 2012: As many as 227 girls brought their artistic creativity as Senior Commercial Artist Vishnu Shevgoor launched the MMV Drawing Competition Mangalore 2012 at the Government Girls’ High School, Balmatta, on Tuesday, 2nd October 2012. The month-long event is being organized Medicines for Malaria Venture, Geneva, partnered by Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, DK District Health Department and Malaria Cell of Mangalore City Corporation and coordinated by city based NGO Centre for Integrated Learning.

 

The intra-school event was launched as Shivgoor symbolically handed over the painting materials to the Principal of the School Vasudev Kamath. Head Master Abdul Khader welcomed the gathering. Dr. Arun Kumar, District Officer for Vector Borne Disease Control, Local Councilor Ranganath Kini and National Service Scheme (NSS) coordinator of Nitte University Srilatha Ullal among others were present.

The highlight of the launching programme was the quick strokes of colours by the chief guest who in just moments produced a illustration depicting the intensity of Malaria disease which is engulfing our world. Convener of Centre for Integrated Learning, S Nandagopal explained the process of organizing the Painting event. The intra-school events will take place in about 30 schools in the city during the next ten days, he informed.

Later in the day, the awareness posters of the event was released by inmates of Children’s Home in the city in presence of Senior Advocate Prithviraj Rai, Journalist Mahesh Nayak and Executive Director of Centre for Integrated Learning, Sachitha Nandagopal.
