In a release, he stated that the 2025–26 Union Budget had proposed setting up cancer day care centres in all district hospitals across the country over the next three years.

As part of the first phase, 200 centres are being established. Based on data from the National Cancer Registry and proposals submitted by the state government, 16 districts in Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, have been selected for the initiative.

The proposed facility at Wenlock Hospital will offer diagnostic services, chemotherapy, patient care, awareness and prevention programmes, and other support services related to cancer. The project aims to provide quality cancer care to the public while reducing the burden on tertiary care centres.
