The 2024 ICS PQE exams were held in Mangaluru from May 13 to 23. Of the seven candidates (six men and one woman) who appeared for 16 papers at the Mangaluru centre, four—Capt. Modak, Capt. Jewel Fernandes, Capt. Lijoy, and Shrinath—passed and will qualify for ICS membership.

Capt. John P. Menezes, chairman of the ICS East India Branch, Chennai, announced that four international prize winners emerged from centres under the East India branch. The Kolkata centre secured two prizes, while the New Delhi and Mangaluru centres each won one.

Capt. Menezes highlighted the global reputation of the ICS PQE as a leading qualification in the shipping and marine industry. The exams cover a comprehensive syllabus that is regularly updated to reflect the latest in shipping business, legal principles, sea transport economics, and international trade. Exam papers are set and evaluated in London.

Since Mangaluru became an examination centre in 2010, 30 candidates have passed the ICS exams to become Members of the ICS (MICS). Mangaluru is one of 105 ICS PQE centres worldwide and the fifth in India. Capt. Menezes encouraged young professionals in Karnataka and Kerala to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Mangaluru centre.

The centre is currently preparing candidates for the May 2025 ICS exams. Those interested in a career in shipping, ports, offshore, and logistics can visit www.ics.org.uk or contact the Mangaluru centre organiser Prashant CG or regional representative Manfred Karkada, MICS of ICS Madras Branch, for guidance.
