CM’s secret meeting with RSS leader leads to speculations

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 24, 2012: Chief Minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda’s secret meeting with RSS leader Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat on Feb 23 Thursday has given rise to a number of rumours, particularly because of its timing.

This meeting took place shortly after B. S. Yeddyurappa invited around 60 – 70 MLAs to his residence for a meeting, obviously in a bid to return to power, even as DVS continued expressing confidence that he will complete his term as the chief minister of Karnataka.

The chief minister first attended the 30th annual convocation of Mangalore University, after which he had dinner and then went in for a closed-door meeting with Dr. Bhat in a room in the official quarters of the vice chancellor. This secret meeting lasted for nearly 45 minutes. Care was taken to ensure that the reporters were served food, but not allowed to walk past the quarters.

Although DK MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Ganesh Karnik, and a number of BJP leaders were present at the convocation, none of them were present during the secret meeting between Dr. Bhat and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. This has led to speculations that the two were discussing were important and sensitive issues.

The chief minister was scheduled to attend a number of important events in Bangalore, and he altered his schedule to facilitate his presence at the convocation ceremony at the last minute, particularly because he now holds the higher education portfolio. He arrived by helicopter 90 minutes in advance, making people feel as if he had come to Mangalore especially to meet the RSS leader.

Dr. Bhat was seated on the front row throughout the convocation ceremony.

After his meeting with Dr. Bhat, the CM returned to Bangalore, but neither Dr. Bhat nor DVS made any comment about their closed-door meeting.
