Mangalore, November 18: An additional allocation of Rs 3,000 crore to provide monetary assistance to economically backward women members of Self Help Groups and decision within 15 days with regard to retirement age and pension facilities for Anganwadi workers are the two promises that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has made for the women folk of the State.

DH photoDistributing Bhagyalakshmi bonds to the beneficiaries and sarees to their mothers at Puttur on Wednesday, he said that government is aware of the social revolution that Self Help Groups have brought in the region.


“State government will take steps to market the products produced by the Self Help Groups,” the CM said adding that Rs 500 crore will be earmarked to provide loans to flower, milk, fruit, vegetable and other vendors who often end up taking loans at high interest and fall in dire straits in the quest of repaying the same. Loan will be provided to these vendors at 6 per cent interest.


The Chief Minister said that though the scheme clause states that the child will get Rs 1 lakh after she attains 18 years, provided she has completed her SSLC, parents of the Bhagyalakshmi beneficiaries should educated their daughters till degree.


As many as 11.50 lakh mothers of Bhagyalakshmi beneficiaries will be getting sarees. With regard to the complaints that many more beneficiaries have not been given the bonds, Yeddyurappa clarified that the a total of Rs 2,000 crore has been deposited with the LIC and henceforth the bonds will be posted to the residence of the beneficiaries directly. Refuting the allegations made by the opposition that he has eked out commission from the sarees he said that the opposition is unnecessarily playing  low level politics.


“Whatever they say, I will complete the remaining two and half year tenure and then answer them,” he said.


Coastal districts

The CM said that anything that the coastal districts need will be given over the next two and a half year tenure. “Give me your list of requirement and I will get it done,” CM said.


During the programme, the CM inaugurated 30 developmental work of Rs 105 crore and also announced Rs 16 crore for four lane work of Mura-Sampya road.
