Mangalore, May 19, 2012: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has begun investigating the murder of Razia (35) and her daughter Fathima Zua (10).

The mother and daughter were murdered in broad daylight in Panjimogaru in June 2011.

A CID team, under the leadership of a deputy superintendent of police from the CID’s homicide and burglary division, visited the crime scene a few days back. They met the family members of the deceased and the police team that had investigated the case.

According to the first information report (FIR) filed by the Mangalore rural police, Razia was stabbed on the chest and hand. Her body was discovered outside her two-storied house. Her daughter Fathima Zua was also stabbed on the chest and her body was found in the living room.

Someone had murdered the mother and daughter duo shortly after Razia’s husband P. Hameed, who is a scrap merchant, left the house on June 28, 2011.

The police had studied the crime scene and concluded that a known person had murdered the two. The murdered had entered the house through the back door shortly after the maid had left. Razia locked the front door of the house from the inside after the maid servant left.

Initially, the police suspected Hameed and studied his movements and his mobile phone call records carefully. Later, they decided that Hameed could not have murdered his wife and daughter.

Later, the police arrested a few suspects and released them after the public accused them of harassing them unnecessarily.

When the city police finally accepted defeat, Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, transferred the case to the CID in the first week of April.
