Mangalore, April 27, 2013: District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goel has informed that five of the 12 check posts in Dakshina Kannada have been brought under CCTV surveillance as per the directive of the Election Commission.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the check posts in Charmadi, Gundya, Suradka, Jalsoor and Farangipet have been equipped with camera surveillance. The video footages will be monitored from the district headquarters via internet.Each check post has four cameras with a recording capacity that can last a whole month.
The SP also informed that so far a sum of Rs 21 lakhs suspected to be used for election campaigning was seized in five cases at checkposts.
A total of 933 polling stations in four Assembly constituencies come under the jurisdiction of the DK police. In view of the elections the Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) along with excise squad, coastal security forces and forest guards have also been deployed. CPMF personnel from non-Karnataka regions are being trained in Kannada to enable them communicate with coastal people.
The Department has also received 550 postal ballots, the SP said and added there were around 700-800 police personnel for whom postal ballot arrangements would be made.
