Budget disappoints people of DK

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 22, 2012: The people of Dakshina Kannada are not happy about CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda’s maiden budget.

DVSAlthough the CM has earmarked more than Rs. 276.6 crore for several projects in the twin districts, his silence regarding crucial projects have disappointed several people. Disappointingly, the CM has completely ignored all the proposals in Vision Document 2020, which he had directed the Zilla Panchayat to draft.

The budget is also silent about the four lane projects and development of existing roads in the twin districts. People had been hopeful when the chief minister promised compensation to arecanut farmers who had suffered financial losses because of the yellow leaf disease. Although the budget has extended the subsidy of Rs. 5.7 crore under the areca rejuvenation program, it has not met the expectations of the arecanut farmers.

N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the legislative assembly, had proposed the upgrading of the planetarium to international standards, but even this proposal has not been mentioned in the budget, which is also silent about the proposed oceanarium in Pilikula Mangalore.
