Brahmavar, Aug 6, 2025: In a swift operation, Brahmavar police arrested a habitual inter-state thief and recovered stolen cash and property worth Rs 36,000.
The theft occurred on August 4 near the Karnataka Bank ATM in front of Shivalli Hotel, Chantaru village. A pigmy collection agent had parked his motorcycle near the ATM, securing a side box containing collected cash. After collecting additional money from the nearby hotel, he returned to find the lock broken and the cash, along with his PAN and Aadhaar cards, missing.
Acting promptly on the complaint, police tracked down and arrested the accused, identified as Santosh Hanumant Kattimani (39), son of Hanumant Kattimani, from Nimbal, Indi Taluk, Vijayapura district. During the arrest, officers recovered Rs 32,000 in cash and a mobile phone connected to the crime.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi SP Hariram Shankar, IPS, and Additional SP Sudhakar Naik, with coordination by Deputy SP Prabhu D T and CPI Gopikrishna. The investigation team included PSI Ashok Malabagi, Investigating PSI Sudharshan Doddamani, and ASI Jayakar Airody, supported by station staff and the crime detection team.
Police confirmed that Kattimani is a repeat offender with prior theft cases across state lines. Further investigation is underway to determine his involvement in other unsolved thefts in the region.
