Bomb scare in Manipal; search ends with tracing of cell phone in garbage bin

Udupi, Jan 12, 2015:  Panic prevailed in Manipal on January 11, Monday morning when news spread that there was an explosive in a garbage bin near the Nehru Block Hostel. It all began at around 9 am when some passersby heard some strange sound from inside the garbage bin and informed  the security personnel nearby  who conveniently came to the conclusion that the sound was that of a time bomb.

Immediately the Manipal police were informed and they arrived with a bomb squad. Their search  for the bomb as well as the panic ended when the police team found a Blackberry cell phone in the garbage bin ending the three hour drama.

Later it came to light that the cell phone was owned by an MBBS student named Joseph who had lost it and had lodged a complaint in this regard. The ringtone of the cell phone  was heard by passersby who mistook it for an explosive.

However, it is still a mystery as to how Joseph’s cell phone  was found in the garbage bin.
