Bomb hoax scares railway officials

Kasargod, Mar 8, 2012: The railway officials received an anonymous phone call on Thursday. The caller warned the officials that a bomb had been planted on the premises of the railway station and that it was in danger of going off at any moment. 

Railway security personnel began searching frantically for the bomb and even pressed into service bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams. However, the call turned out to be a hoax.

Search operations last two hours. In order to prevent panic, the bomb scare was kept a secret and none of the passengers waiting in the railway station came to know of the matter. 

On March 3, pipe bombs were placed on the railway tracks in the vicinity of the Cheruvathur Railway Station. Following this incident, senior police officers under the leadership of S. Sreejith, the DIG (north) had a meeting during which it was decided that the police force would patrol the area covering the 100-km railway track between Payyanur and Mangalore.
