Bishop inaugurates three days convention to mark the ’Year of Faith’

Mangalore, Nov 22, 2013: Mangalore Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the three day closing programme of ‘Year of Faith’, organized by the Mangalore diocese by lighting the lamp at Nehru Maidan on November 22, Friday.

Bishop began the ceremony with a prayer and asked people to imbibe in their lives the ideals preached during the year-long year of faith celebrations.

The prayer was followed by a series of lectures. The first prayer service was of Rev Joseph Edutu from the Divine Retreat Centre from Muringur in Kerala. He spoke on the topic ‘What is Faith?’ and asked people to not lose faith in God during difficult times. Quoting a verse from a religious text, he said God would do best during bad times to people, who were faithful to God. He would care for them the way a parent cared for the child. Remember the good things that have occurred during the lifetime and hear the words of God, he said.

Rev Vinith from the Association of Catholic Faithful from Varanasi spoke on the topic ‘the fruits of faith’ and said the first fruit of faith was trust in God. He said the Bible was a book of promises and Lord fulfilled all promises. Faith built perseverance and developed courage in a person to face enemy.

Rev Fr Clifford Fernandes conducted the praise and worship session on theme ‘knowing our faith’. Rev Fr Micheal Santhumayor led the choir group. Fr Abraham SVD took up the adoration session.

On Saturday, the spiritual session will be held on the theme ‘Living our Faith’ and on Sunday ‘Pro-claiming our faith’.
