Mangalore, Oct 2, 2012 : The students of primary schools and high schools across Mangalore took part in a procession, which began at Ambedkar Circle and ended at Town Hall. The procession was taken out in honor of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi today. The event was organized by the Bharath Seva Dal.
Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the DK Sahitya Parishad, welcomed the gathering. DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar, Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, ZP CEO Dr. K. Vijayaprakash, Brigadier I. N. Rai, Mayte and Konni of Germany, and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura then garlanded the statue of Gandhi at Gandhi Park near Town Hall.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mr. Bhat lamented that Gandhiji’s dream of Ramarajya remains a dream although the country got its independence 65 years back.
Sharing his military experiences, Brigadier I. N. Rai said that inculcating Gandhian values is essential for the building of a strong nation. He urged the youth to join the army in large numbers as it helps instill patriotic values in them.
The DC also addressed the gathering on this occasion.
Singing of bhajans and patriotic songs and inter-religious prayer sessions formed part of the event. The children also presented a cultural show.
