Besant College to host seminar on Commercial Banks and Micro Financial Institution

Mangalore, Sep 10, 2013: The Besant Evening College will host two days national seminar on "Effective Partnerships between Commercial Banks and Micro financial Institution" at College Auditorium on September 12, Thursday at 9:30 am.

Addressing the press meet held at Press Club on Sep 10, Tuesday, Dr. Carmelita Goveas, principal of the college said that UGC sponsored national seminar in association with Corporation Bank will popularize the role of commercial Banks and Micro finance institution among the students.

She also said that the purpose of conducting the seminar is to provide a common platform to students, academicians, bankers, micro-finance institutions, NGO’s and self-help groups involved in micro-finance for discussion and debate on the main theme of building effective partnerships between commercial banks and micro-finance institutions.

The seminar will also analyze and document some of the issues and experiences of commercial banks with regard to micro-finance operations and to draw conclusions concerning their future as large scale providers of microfinance services, she added.

Karthikeyan VS, general manager of Corporation Bank Ltd will inaugurate the event, While Dr A Krishna Reddy, Sa-dhan (Apex body of Micro-finance sector), Hyderabad will deliver the key note address. 

College Correspondent Nagar Narayan Shenoy will be the guest of honour, while WNES president Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy will preside over the event.

Prof. Ganapathi Bhat, HOD dept. of English, Prof. Ishwar Poojary convener of the seminar and Dr. Veerappa Gowda, college librarian were present.
