Mangalore, March 26, 2012 : The St. Francis Xavier’s Church of Bejai presented Thi Namaani Bara Voram, a mega play on the passion of Christ on the grounds of Lourdes Central School in Bejai on March 25 Sunday as part of its centenary year celebrations.
Frank Martin Lobo, the violinist and co-founder of the Xavier Educational Trust was honored on this occasion for his service to the church choir. Melwyn Rodrigues, who recently bagged the Central Sahitya Academy Award for his anthology of poetry Prakratiso Paas was also honored on this occasion. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, honored the two achievers with a shawl, a memento, and a citation and congratulated them.
The bishop also honored Joel Pereira, the writer, composer, and music director of the mega show. Even Clarence Pinto Padil, the director and special advisor of the play, and Adolphus Cutinha, also known as Dolla, were felicitated. Fr. Victor Machado, the parish priest, was specially thanked on this occasion. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, the principal of Lourdes Central School, was also thanked for providing the venue for the play.
The play was presented on nine stages by 150 artistes of Bejai parish. It lasted nearly three hours.
The guest of honor of the inauguration ceremony was Dr. Edward Nazareth. Among the dignitaries on the dais was Augustine Rodrigues, the vice president of the parish council.
