Mangalore, Aug 7: St. Francis Xavier Church in Bejai inaugurated its 100th anniversary celebrations on Aug 7 Sunday.
Just before the service, the Holy Bible was carried in a procession and placed in a seat of honor by the chief celebrant Fr. Vincent Furtado Capuchin.
In his inaugural address, Fr. Vincent Furtado spoke of the importance of faith and of how the media can be used to create faith among the masses.
The parish priest distributed candles among the 24 gurkars, the secretary, and the vice president representing the community. He also unveiled the logo of the centenary year celebrations after mass.
The parish clergy also planted jasmine creepers and mango saplings to mark the event, after which centenary flags were distributed among all the gurkars to symbolize the unity of the parish.
