Mangalore, April 30, 2012 : Suresh Kateel, the general secretary of the committee formed to organize the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of Barrister Attavar Yellappa, said that the celebrations will be held on May 4 – 6. He was addressing reporters at a press meet held in Press Club on April 30 Monday.

Speaking about Barrister Attavar Yellappa, he said that Mr. Yellappa was closely associated with Nethaji Subhashchandra Bose and played an active role in the foundation of Azad Hind Bank, which collected donations for India’s struggle for freedom from people in Myanmar, Hong Kong, Singapore, and others.

Revealing details about the celebrations, he said that the portrait of Barrister Attavar Yellappa will be unveiled at DK Zilla Panchayat School in Attavar on May 4 Friday at 10:00 a.m. The event will be inaugurated by Rathindranath, the honorary president of the school development committee, in the Colonel U. Sunder Rao Auditorium. Suresh Babu, the president of the Sarvajanika Srikrishna Jayanthotsava Committee in Attavar, will preside over the event.


The chief guests of the event will be Dr. Harish Kumar, the commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), and Radhakrishna Bhat K., the headmaster of the DK District Panchayat High School.


Freedom fighters will be felicitated at the Ras Bihari Bose Auditorium in Town Hall on May 5 at 5:00 p.m. Dr. Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh will inaugurate the event and Jayaprakash Hegde, the Lok Sabha member of Udupi – Chikmagalur constituency, will preside.


M. B. Puranik, the member of the State Religious Parishad, will release the biography of Barrister Attavar Yellappa.


The chief guests will be MLA U. T. Khader, Kumta MLA Dinakar Keshava Shetty, Mayor Gulzar Banu, Fisheries Department President Nithin Kumar, ZP President K. T. Shailaja Bhat, DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, ZP CEO Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, and many others.


A procession will be held from Jyothi Circle to Nehru Maidan on May 6 Sunday. The event will be inaugurated by CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, who will pay tributes to the portrait of Barrister Attavar Yellappa at Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose Auditorium. Justice Santhosh Hegde will preside over the event. Dr. B. M. Hegde, the retired vice chancellor of Mahe University, will deliver the introductory speech, and Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, the union corporate affairs minister, will release the sovereign.


Prof. Jagmohan Singh, the nephew of Bhagath Singh; Subroth Bose, the nephew of Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose; Adil Shah Nawaz and his wife Mahabin Shah Nawaz; Poornima Dhillon; V. P. Saini, the chairman of the Nethaji Research Foundation; Shivashankar, the head of the Forward Block Karnataka; and Captain Dr. Laxmi Sehgal will also participate.
