Youth Drowned in ManjalpadeBantwal, Sept 9, 2013: In a tragic incident reported from Manjalpade in Sajipamunnur village, a youth reportedly drowned in the Netravathi river while having a bath on September 8, Sunday. However, another friend who was accompanying him managed to swim ashore after a futile bid to rescue the former.

The youth who drowned has been identified as Praveen Kulal (22)  of Kadeshwalya. He was working as welder in Mangalore.  It is learnt, he along with his friend  Kamalaksha had been to the river for a bath when the mishap took place.

It is learnt a total of five friends including the two had come to Manjalpade to attend a friend’s wedding. After the marriage party left, the two had  gone to the river for  a bath.

The body of the missing Praveen Kulal is not yet traced despite much effort by expert divers.Bantwal town police have registered a case.

As many as four children who had been to the river for a swim had drowned at the same place  in January 2010. Nearly ten years ago, four youth too had met a watery grave here.
