Bantwal: Young girl found murdered; rape suspected

Bantwal, Feb 26, 2013: In a shocking  case, 22  year old girl was found murdered close by a pond at Baltila village of Kalladka on February 25, Monday. Police as well as villagers suspect this to be a case of rape and murder. Police have arrested one suspect in this case. The incident has sent shockwaves in the locality reminding one of the Sowjanya case.

 

The incident is learnt to have occurred when the girl named Sowmya who had got a job in Manipal recently  after completing her D.Ed course and was staying at her aunt’s place, had come to her hometown to collect some documents. According to sources  some person had dragged Sowmya  towards the pond after she alighted from a bus at Dasakodi and was walking towards her house in the afternoon.

 It was only in the evening, when her neighbour Vidya who was  walking towards her home, found the girl’s mobile phone lying abandoned on the road. Vidya realized that something had gone wrong when the girl’s aunt called. When it came to light that she had not reached home, a search was launched and her shawl, footwear and bag were found near Kuntalagatte.  Her body was found close by the pond with injury marks on her neck and clothes in a  battered state.
Evidences at the spot also revealed that she was almost dragged towards the place.

The police who rushed to the spot later took one Satish, a localite into custody on the basis of statements from locals who had seen him  near the pond. A post mortem report is being awaited.

Bantwal police is investigating the case.
