Bantwal : Over 20 injured as speeding bus plunges off Kudkodi bridge at Siddakatte

Bantwal, Oct 9 , 2013 : Over 20 persons were injured when a private bus overturned and fell off the Kudkodi  bridge  into the stream  at Siddakatte on October 9, Wednesday morning. Rash  driving is said to be the reason for the accident.

Eyewitnesses said the bus  which  was  heading towards Moodbidri from BC Road, went out of control of the driver  as it approached the mini bridge,  overturned, hit an electric pole and rolled on to the stream. The bus was badly mangled in the  mishap and the electric pole uprooted.

Most of the bus passengers were students going to a college in Moodbidri and women employees of a cashew factory.The injured were rushed to private hospitals.

It is learnt, the driver jumped off the bus as it hit the electric pole. However, a major mishap was averted as there was not much of a water flow in the stream.
