Bantwal: Man arrested for stealing arecanut worth Rs 2.20 lakh; property recovered

Bantwal, Aug 1, 2025: Police have arrested an accused in connection with a theft of dried arecanut that occurred in Poonjoor, Maninalkuru village, and have recovered stolen property.

The arrested accused has been identified as Satish (29), a resident of Paicharu in Sullia taluk.


Theft


Between July 3 and 22, dried arecanut worth Rs 2.20 lakh, stored in around 45 plastic bags, was stolen from Poonjoor, Maninalkuru village. A case was registered at Bantwal Rural Police Station on July 23 regarding the theft.

To crack the case, a special team led by Bantwal Rural Police Station Inspector Shivakumar B. was formed. Acting on the investigation, police arrested the accused Satish on July 28.

From the arrested accused, police seized 15 bags of dried arecanut worth Rs 74,000, Rs 70,000 cash from the sale of the stolen arecanut, and a goods vehicle worth Rs 80,000 used in the crime, amounting to a total recovery of Rs 2.24 lakh.
