Mangalore, Nov 4, 2012: Udupi Qazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal inaugurated the mass marriage ceremony organized by Bearys Welfare Forum (BWF) of Abu Dhabi in Milagres Hall today. The need to eradicate the dowry menace from Muslim society was also stressed on this occasion.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, B. A. Mohidin, former higher education minister, said that mass marriage ceremonies are not the permanent solutions for the dowry menace, adding that it is the need of the hour to eradicate the root cause of dowry.
While Abdullah Madumoole introduced the BWF and gave a report of its activities, Basheer Bajpe spoke about BWF’s plans for the future. BWF President Mohammed Ali Uchil presided over the event.
Among those present were MLA U. T. Khder, Althaf Khatheeb, Mohammed Ameen, B. M. Mumtaz Ali, and others.
Fifteen couples tied the knot on this occasion, which happens to be the fourth mass marriage ceremony of its kind organized by the BWF.
BWF, a union of Beary expatriates, focuses on social welfare, education, and recognition of talented people. In a bid to eradicate dowry from Beary society, it organized mass marriages in the years 2008, 2009, and 2011. As many as 58 couples got married at these mass marriage ceremonies.
