BJP to hold district-wide protest against state government on June 23: Capt Brijesh Chowta

Mangaluru, June 17, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has announced that the district BJP will hold a protest on June 23 against the state government, accusing it of implementing "anti-people and anti-farmer" policies and denying social security benefits to citizens.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Capt Chowta said the protest would be staged across all 223 gram panchayats, the Mangaluru City Corporation, two city municipal councils, and various municipal offices in the district.

He alleged that the state government had made the ‘9/11’ land regularisation process more complicated instead of simplifying it, leading to corruption. “Applications under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme are being rejected without the knowledge of committee members. This is a clear anti-farmer move. We demand the process be streamlined,” he said.

Capt Chowta also urged the government to construct 100 houses per panchayat under the Ashraya housing scheme, claiming that no progress had been made in the past two years.

The protest will further highlight alleged irregularities in the Sandhya Suraksha pension scheme. “The government is trying to hide its administrative failures and revenue mismanagement by denying social security benefits to the people,” he alleged.

He also strongly criticised the recent hike in electricity tariffs.
