BJP candidates emerge victorious in TP elections

Mangalore, Oct 10, 2012 : BJP’s Harish K. and Rajeevi Kempamannu have been elected as the president and vice president, respectively, of the Taluk Panchayat (TP) during an election procedure held in the auditorium of the TP on Oct 9, Tuesday.

 

 

 

The election, which was scheduled for 3:00 p.m., had to be conducted thirty minutes late because of the absence of BJP members at the venue. When Dr. Venkatesh, election assistant commissioner, said that the election will have to be postponed if the BJP members do not arrive within 30 minutes, the Congress members demanded that the election must be held without BJP members, which led to a quarrel between the election officer and the Congress members.

Since the BJP members arrived a few minutes before the end of the half hour, the elections were held.

The post of president was reserved for a member belonging to the backward class A community and that of the vice president was reserved for a woman member in the general category. Three candidates—Prakash Gaddikalpane of BJP, Prakash Devaramane of Congress, and Harish K. of BJP—contested for the post of president. Two women members—Shashi Prabha of Congress and Rajeevi of BJP—contested for the post of vice president.

Shortly before the elections, Prakash Gaddikalpane withdrew his application. Finally, Harish K. and Rajeevi were elected as the president and vice president of the TP, respectively.

The BJP celebrated its victory by arranging a Nasik band and bursting crackers after the election. They also took the winners in an open jeep procession to their office in Karangalpady.
