Mangalore, Aug 26, 2012:Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) of UAE distributed Rs. 22 lakhs in scholarships among over 450 students belonging to different religions and castes on August 26, Sunday in Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius PU College. 


Nitte University Vice Chancellor Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty said in his address that most college students are girls, proving that society is changing and that students are getting more motivated than ever. Speaking of the importance of educating women, he said that educating a girl is equal to educating the entire family. Lauding the BCF, he said that NRIs belonging to all communities must launch similar initiatives to assist financially backward students back home.

Yenepoya University Vice Chancellor Y. Abdullah Kunhi spoke on the occasion and expressed his happiness that the Muslim community has understood the importance of education. 


Addressing the gathering, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly N. Yogish Bhat said that education changes one’s way of life, teaching one to become self-reliant. 


Bantwal MLA Ramanath Rai and Mangalore Mayor Gulzar Banu also spoke on the occasion and BCF President B. K. Yusuf delivered the presidential address, in which he spoke on the importance of education. 


The BCF also felicitated Fortune Group Chairman Praveen Shetty on this occasion.
Mangalore MLA U. T. Khader; M. B. Abdul Rahman, former president of Beary Sahitya Academy; Abdussalam Puthige, editor-in-chief of Varthabharathi; Dr. Kaup Mohammed, general secretary of BCF; and M. E. Moolur, chairman of BCF Scholarship Committee were also present. B. M. Mumtaz Ali, BCF patron, welcomed the gathering. 


The BCF also held a career guidance seminar for the students on this occasion.
