Mangalore, Oct. 11: Sri Ganapathi Pai, Bharath Group passed away at 11 pm on October 10, 2012 at his residence in Mangalore. He was 77 years. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.


Ganapathi PaiMr. Pai was suffering from respiratory problems for some time. He breathed his last at around 11 pm on October 10, 2012.


He was a man of noble vision and dynamism. It was his vision, drive, dynamism that firmly established Bharath Bidi Works Private Limited with a pan-India presence. Today Bharath Bidi Works Private Limited and other concerns under Bharath Brand employ over 50,000 people directly and indirectly and have an annual turnover of about Rs. 400 crore. 

It was his father Sri. Manjunath Pai who established the business empire with No.30 brand Bidi.

However it was Mr. Ganapathi Pai who took the business to greater heights. Being the eldest son, Ganapathi Pai joined his father in business in 1954.  Manjunath Pai had six children including Ganapathi Pai who was the only son of his first wife.  Ganapathi Pai lost his mother when he was hardly 11 months old and was brought up under the love and care of his step-mother.  He has 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Bharath Group Companies: Bharath Beedi Works Pvt. Ltd. , Bharath Exports, Bharath Builders, Bharath Printers & Alaknanda Printers,  Bharath Auto Cars, Bharath Mall and Book Mark. Bharath group is running two educational institutions and a cultural centre in Karkala. 

He is survived by his wife Geetha Pai, two sons, Ananth, Anand and daughters Roopa and Rekha.
