Mangalore, Feb 10,2013: Drugs and alcohol not only destroys the person who is addicted to the substance, but also destroys his family, Matha Amrutanandamayi, the much acclaimed spiritual leader popularly called as Amma, said during her discourse at ‘Amrita Sangama 2013’ at Amrita Vidyalaya, Bolur on February 10, Sunday.
Amma during her discourse chose to speak on the burning issue of drug abuse and said awareness regarding substance abuse will help youth refrain from the evil. Giving an example, Amma said “Though one may be extremely fond of Payasam, he or she would refrain from having it if he comes to know that poison is mixed in it. Similar should be the case with drugs,” she said. No one will dare to consume drugs or alcohol if he is aware of the harm it can do to him and his family,” she said.
Stating that ego was spreading like the dreaded disease called cancer, she said though man should enjoy freedom, he should be cautious enough to see that his freedom does not harm others.
Amma also exhorted youngsters to respect parents and elders and not forget the sacrifices they have made in life.
Hundreds of devotees and followers of Amma attended the programme. MLA and former minister Krishna Palemar and several others were present.
