In the memorandum, the DKWJU condemned the recent attack on Shashidhar Poyyathabail, a cameraman for Namma Kudla local TV channel, when he was shooting a Kambala in Talapady on Saturday night. They also urged the government to provide proper protection to journalists on duty and demanded an investigation of the attack and strict action against the guilty.

Attack on reporters taking photos and videos at Kambala events is not a recent trend as the organizers of Kambalas usually hire goons, stated the memorandum and urged the government to put an end to such unhealthy practices.

According to the DKWJU, Kambalas must be considered as government programs as the state government has earmarked funds for the preservation and promotion of this traditional sport. Owing to this, the organizers of Kambalas ought to make proper arrangements for reporters and spectators.
