Ashok Vardhan, Ronald Fernandes among 19 Rajyothsava Award winners

Mangalore, Oct 31, 2012: Environmentalist, Ashok Vardhan and journalist Ronald Fernandes are among the 19 achievers who have been selected for the DK District Rajyotsava Awards this year.

The others selected to receive these awards are Shantharam Acharya Kalladka (literature), Puttur Shreedhar Bhandary, Prof. S. Prabhakar Ujier (education), Prakash Karanth Narikombu (Yakshagana), Mahabala Poojary Kadambodi (social service), Shreedhar Bhat, Rohini Subbarathnam Kanchana (music), Lokaiah Sere (folk), Jeevan Ram Sullia (theatre), Mohan Sonangeri (art), Edward Taccode (agriculture), Sharada Mani Shekar (dance), Ramakrishna Ashram (organization), Ashok Vardhan (environment), Kodipady Narayana Jois (religion and culture), and Gayathri Navada (research).

Sadananda Prabhu and Sahana Poojary will receive special awards for their sports achievements.

DC Dr. Channappa Gowda, who announced the list of award winners at a press meet held in his office today, said that a committee of renowned personalities such as MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar, Mangala Naik, Dr. Mohan Alva, ADC Dayanand, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, and DC Dr. Channappa Gowda made the final selections.

The awards will be conferred on the achievers on Rajyothsava Day.
