Udupi, Nov 22, 2013: M.J. Archana, a resident of Asare, a residential school and a home for the mentally challenged, will be participating in the aquatics events of 25 metres and 50 metres freestyle at the Asia Pacific Special Olympics to be held at New Castle in Australia from December 1 to 7.
Asare is a joint venture of Archana Trust and Manipal University, in Manipal.
Ms. Archana (28) had participated in the State level Olympics held at Pamboor, and has won two first prizes and two second prizes in swimming in 2003, said K.S. Jaivittal, Ms. Archana’s father and Chairman of Archana Trust, on Wednesday.
She was certified by Michael Phelps Foundation (USA) for her commendable achievements in swimming. This certification programme was held in Mysore Sports Club on October 13, 2012.
Ms. Archana had received the Udupi Districit-level Karnataka Rajyotsava Award- 2012 for her achievements in sports.She had been short listed for the Asia Pacific Special Olympics to be held at New Castle from December 1 to 7 during a camp at Chennai in July 2013. Nearly 2,500 athletes from 29 countries will take part inthe games.
