Bantwal, Aug 25, 2011 : The Kerala police, with the help of the Vittal police, arrested Premalatha, the president of Anantady Gram Panchayat, on Aug 24 Wednesday for cheating a person from Bangalore of Rs. 29 lakh by promising to get him gold at low rates.

 

Venkatesh Murthy of Bangalore, the general secretary of the JD (S), had lodged a complaint that he had purchased gold worth Rs. 5 lakh through Premalatha in the past and that she had promised to get him gold worth Rs. 29 lakh from an acquaintance at lower rates. In his complaint, Murthy states that he had paid the amount in full, after which Premalatha started avoiding him.

When Premalatha got to know that the police were looking for her, she lodged a complaint with the SP of DK that some people associated with the underworld were shadowing her and that she needed police protection. The SP directed her to the Vittal Police Station, where Rakshit A. K., the sub inspector of the Vittal Police Station, got suspicious and collected information about her. Shortly thereafter, she was arrested.

Premalatha (45), the daughter of Narayana Saphalya Neralakatte, become a GP member as a Congress candidate, but later changed over to the BJP. She became the president of the Anantady GP during the previous elections.
