
Referring to the Mangalore plane crash, he said that the airport had nothing to do with this unfortunate event, adding that needless publicity was given this angle. He said that they could commission the runway just five hours after the crash and flights began landing there soon after.
Acknowledging the support of the local people in helping him transform a small airport into an international airport, he said that the local people helped in introducing prepaid taxi services in 1996.
Speaking about his successor G. T. Radhakrishnan, he said that Mr. Radhakrishnan was part of the new terminal building project and said that he is happy that the AAI had appointed an experienced man as the next director of the airport.
