Mangalore, March 5, 2013 : Deputy commissioner N Prakash has informed that as many as 70 polling booths have been identified as sensitive and 84 booths as hyper sensitive  out of the total 544 polling booths  set up for the elections to the Urban Local Body polls to be held on March 7, Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at his office here on March 6, Wednesday, the DC said  all arrangements have been made to conduct free and fair  elections.


The DC said the police department has been asked to deploy additional personnel in areas around sensitive and hyper sensitive booths. There will be video surveillance  also in these centres. He informed that the district administration has deployed nearly 3000 personnel for election duties. A total of 84 buses and 22 jeeps would be  on election duty and there will be 47 sector officials and 68 police sector teams.


 Electronic Voting Machines would be used at all the centres, the DC informed adding political parties can set up their camps outside a radius of 200 meters from the  polling booths. Voters can produce any one of the 21 documents at the polling booth for identification. Passport, driving licence, PAN card, ration card, senior citizen card or voters ID card can be produced for identification.


 There will be 379 voting   for Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) polls where a total of 3,12,579 voters will exercise their franchise. There will be 23 polling booths in Moodbidri, 35 in Ullal, 42 in Puttur, 18 in Sullia, 31 in Bantwal and 11 polling booths in Belthangady. Voting will begin at 7 am and will end  to 5 pm.


The counting of votes will be carried out on March 11 from 8 am
