Speaking on the occasion, Karunya Sagar Dasa, president of the Mangalore unit of Akshaya Patra, spoke about the role played by Akshya Patra in education. Regretting that several children in India do not get education, he said that this is because of hunger and socio-cultural barriers that discourage parents from sending their children to school.

Senior Deccan Herald journalist Shrinivas Sirnoorkar was the resource person. Speaking about the hunger problem in India, he said that more people die of hunger than of AIDS or cancer. Speaking about the problem of hunger in the world, he said that the world has around 92 crore chronically hungry people, adding that 10 million people die every year of hunger. One in every seven people in the world is hungry, he said, adding that 98 percent of the hungry people in this world live in developing countries, while two-thirds of them live in China, Bangladesh, Congo, and India.
An interactive session was held after the workshop.
