Mangalore, Nov 22: The Mangalore City Corporation and Dr. M. V. Shetty College of Social Work jointly organized an HIV/AIDS awareness programme for the paura karmikas at the Council Hall of Mangalore City Corporation on Nov 22, Monday.

Rajendra Kumar, the deputy mayor, inaugurated the programme and said that AIDS has been haunting humankind for the past several years, owing to which awareness programmes need to be conducted.


Chairperson of MCC Standing Health Committee Shantha R. presided over the occasion and said that if people take precautions, they can avoid diseases and lead a happy life.


M. C. Prabhu, the assistant general manager of Corporation Bank, was the guest of honor. In his address, he informed that, according to recent surveys, there is a distinct rise in the percentage of people suffering from AIDS.


Dr. M. Ramgopal Shetty, the founder secretary of Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust, was the chief guest of the event. Carol D’Souza, a lecturer of Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial College, was the resource person.


Assistant Health Officer Raghupathi  delivered the welcome address. Harish Shetty, the student coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
