Mangalore, July 7, 2012: The Akhil Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on July 7, Saturday, urging the BJP-led state government to solve the state’s education problems.

This is the ABVP’s second protest urging the government to consider its 16 demands.

ABVP City Coordinator Chinmaya Rai delivered the protest address on the occasion and said that the ABVP had protested against the recent fee hike for seats under the government’s CET quota. The ABVP had also demanded stricter regulation for universities as a number of universities have cropped up at present. He said that universities must follow in the footsteps of Kuvempu University and offer seats on merit only and cancel payment seats.

The ABVP had also demanded a uniform academic year for all universities in the state. It had demanded action to be taken against corrupt officers of Women’s University, Rajiv Gandhi University, and Mysore University. Besides, it had demanded strict action to be taken against all involved in the Kuvempu University marks card scam.

The ABVP’s 16 demands also include abolition of self-financing courses from state universities, framing of a central entrance policy for pre-university courses, strict laws for private universities, and provision of basic facilities at government engineering colleges launched five years back.

The ABVP declared that it would intensify its protests if the government does not solve these issues at the earliest.
