The thieves had made way by breaking open the main door of the sanctum sanctorum. The value of the stolen silver aureole is estimated at Rs 5.5 lakhs.

The thieves have however not broken open the gudis of Lord Ayyappa and Lord Ganapathi in the outer precincts of the Temple. At the same time it was noticed that  files kept in the temple office were found scattered around.

The wooden  piece to which the aureole was fitted was reportedly found abandoned in a nearby hill. The aureole was donated to the temple by a local businessman Rakesh Malli during the Navaratri festival last year.

Senior police officials including SP Abhishek Goel and DySP    Sadanand Varnekar, have visited the spot. Finger print experts have also been pressed into service.
