Bantwal, Aug 2sep 2013 : An eight year old girl who was working as a domestic help at a house at Ajjibettu in BC Road belonging to a police constable at Kadri East Traffic police station in Mangalore, has been rescued in a joint operation by the officials of the Labour and Education Departments and the Child Helpline.
The operation followed a tip off and the officials found the 8 year old girl from Bellary working for the constable Eru Naik and his wife Jyothi Bai who is a village accountant in Bantwal.
It is learnt the two had employed the girl to take care of their one and a half year old baby. The girl, the officials learnt, was also made to do domestic chores.
When the place was raided the child and the girl were found and when questioned she said her parents were from Tamil Nadu with her three siblings. The couple when contacted refused to divulge anything and on the basis of the girl’s statement, a case has been registered.
The girl has been produced before the CWC. The girl was earlier even subject to medical examination when it was confirmed that her age was around 8 to 10.
