6 booked for thrashing Dalit accused of raping mentally ill minor

Mangalore, Aug 28, 2013 : The  Bajpe police have registered cases against six persons under Prevention of Atrocities on Dalits Act,  on the charges of thrashing Sunder, a man accused of  raping a mentally ill minor girl and  being responsible for her pregnancy.

The incident  had been reported from Kalladi in Kuppepadavu of Bajpe police station limits recently. Locals on gathering hint that Sunder, a Dalit  who is also the former SDMC President of Kalladi Primary School was the one who was responsible for sexual harassment of the minor girl, had tied him to a tree and had thrashed him black and blue before the police took him to custody.

Meanwhile, the accused Sunder’s brother Sadashiv lodged a complaint against six locals including Bharath, Jeevaraj, Satish, Purandar and Chethu   for assaulting and abusing Sunder in the name of caste.

The police have arrested one of the accused namely Bharath and are on the lookout for the rest. Sunder who has been charged of raping the minor girl is behind bars.
