Mangalore, Oct 25, 2012: Four young men were kidnapped and assaulted by a gang of 15 men when they were returning home from work on Oct 23, Tuesday at Nadupadavu.
The police have arrested 2 people in connection with this case and have seized 3 bikes and a Scorpio car. They have also launched a manhunt for Kalandar, the chief accused.
The arrested are Abdul Nazir of Manjanady and Abbas of Kairangala in Padenjaalu, who have already been produced in court.
When Ismail, Zafar, Shafi, and Nisaar were returning home from work in an auto rickshaw, a group of 15 people stopped the auto rickshaw and took them to Kalandar’s house, where they were assaulted. Shafi managed to escape from them and called the police and the local people, who rushed to Kalandar’s house. Although the gang tried to run away, the police succeeded in nabbing two of them.
The victims had come to know that Kalandar is involved in illegal activities and had told the local people about it. Kaladar and his associates had, therefore, decided to teach them a lesson.
Furious local people gathered in front of Kalandar’s house and pelted stones at his house. They also protested in front of the Konaje police station, demanding that action must be taken against the culprits at the earliest.
According to the police, all the people involved in the case are friends and relatives of Kalandar.
