Of these 33,885 students, 31,453 students are regular students, 17,486 are boys and 16,399 are girls.

Ninety-five exam centres have been set up in DK, 15 each in Puttur and Bantwal, 20 in Mangalore, 25 in Mangalore rural, 6 in Sullia, and 4 in Moodubidri.

Private candidates are required to write their exams in Mangalore as 6 separate centres have been set up for them.

Moses Jayashekar, the DDPI, said that a vigilance squad, under the leadership of a high school head teacher/senior assistant teacher, has been set up to curb malpractice. Six valuation centres have been set up in Mangalore with 2 vigilance squads to monitor valuation.

Students are required to arrive 30 minutes in advance.

The district has made serious attempts this year to improve its SSLC performance since DK was down to the 21st position in Karnataka in 2011. The 38 schools that got results below 60 percent in the last examinations had to answer at least 3 preparatory exams this year. Of these 38 schools, 24 are government schools and 14 are private schools.

According to the BEOs, group studies, special classes, stress management trainings, subject revisions, parent – teacher training, and others were held regularly in a bid to improve the result this year.
